The European Year of languages was successful in involving millions of people across 45 countries in activities to celebrate linguistic diversity and the benefits of being able to speak another language. To celebrate the day of languages, one of our residents John took part in an activity using one of our iPad’s, where he listened to a sentence in German and had to translate it in English followed by a sentence in English and translating to German. John has always been interested in languages so when his youngest son was stationed in Germany, John self-taught himself to speak the language as he visited him often so speaking German helped him enormously.
