During the pandemic the Health and Social Care sector has faced unimaginable challenges. The health care assistants and other Care Home staff were at the front of the pandemic taking care of the most vulnerable people. They forgot about their families and friends and took care of those who didn’t have their relatives around. These people were the real heroes and deserve to be recognised and appreciated for being so kind, brave, dedicated and caring.
THE CARER (www.thecareruk.com) ran an unsung hero award dedicated to staff working in the residential and nursing care sector who have during the coronavirus crisis gone above and beyond “normal work duties”.
The competition was for one winner, however, such was the standard of nominations THE CARER decided to add four runners-up. We are so proud that our nominated Denise Mensah from Chestnut View Care Home, was one of the four runners up!
Denise has been working for our Group for over 15 years. She has covered pretty much all departments, Kitchen, Housekeeping, Laundry, Care, Activities and now is in charge of all lifestyle and social activities for the residents. She has made sure the residents still have fun and enjoyed their days despite all government rules on social distancing, restrictions to visits, lockdowns and all that has happened in the past year and a half. Denise came to work early, stayed late to organise events, sang, danced, laughed, cried with all of us, making sure everyone was still enjoying life. All birthdays and tea afternoons, all parties and celebrations were successful thanks to her and her abilities to work under pressure. She always smiled and carried on with her duties putting the residents first. An amazing person who has always gone the extra mile to support all staff members. Well done and thank you, Denise, for all the enthusiasm and hard work, it’s greatly appreciated and we are proud of having such a caring and dedicated colleague like you!
