Land Army during World War II

Poppy, our resident at Cedar View Care Centre kindly shared with us her memories, experiences and memorabilia from her time in the women’s Land Army during World War II. Poppy worked in an apple orchid and even though that sounds pleasant, Poppy said it was hard work with long days, but felt at the same time she was helping with the war effort. Women in the Land Army were only recognised for their contribution to the war in 2015 when a ceremony and lunch was held in Croydon Town Hall and hosted by the then Mayor of Croydon. Poppy was presented with a medal and a letter from the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
It was a lovely afternoon, and we plan to feature a resident each month to share their life experiences.
