Pride at Priory Court

Here at Priory Court, we have been celebrating LGBTQ+ throughout the month of June. We started with a residents meeting explaining to them what we were as a home going to be trying to achieve throughout the month, the residents were all happy about it and said they were looking forward to a party, which we arranged for the 28th of July with an Icon Entertainer. The families were invited to the party with posters around the home advertising it and to wear bright colour clothes.

We arranged to do arts and crafts, making Pride flags with colours of their choices and tissue paper colourful flowers to decorate the home. We painted rainbows on canvasses, made paperchains and talked about Pride whilst working on these activities. We had all the different Pride flags placed around the home with their meanings so people could be educated if they wanted to.

Our lifestyle team made a balloon arch of bright rainbow colours, which was placed in the entrance to the courtyard where we held the Rainbow Party. They also decorated cakes with bright coloured icing and rainbow sprinkles, which the residents really enjoyed with colourful juice. We had rainbow-coloured flowers on the reception desk for everyone to admire.

The courtyard was decorated with colourful bunting, paper chains, streamers, and rainbows. There was face painting of rainbows for the party and staff dressed in bright, colourful clothes to support us.

We had the very talented Jamie Sheen come and entertain us with his Icon show. His show included him dressing up as the icons when singing their songs, this included Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, Tony Christie, Elvis Presley, Abba and many more. It was a fantastic afternoon, and all the residents had a wonderful time singing, dancing, and a lot of laughter. They asked when Jamie is coming back as he was such a big hit!

The whole home has been a wash of colour for the month of June.
