Science experiment project

Residents at Oaklands enjoyed taking part in this arts and craft come simple science experiment project. In order to make our butterfly suncatchers, we took templates and the residents coloured them in using ordinary coloured pencils. Now this is where the magic happens. Once the butterflies had been coloured, we dipped a cotton bud into baby oil, and holding it like a pencil we blended the colouring to a smooth finish. Turning the paper, baby oil was then spread over the reverse side of the butterfly, dabbed with a paper towel and hey presto, beautiful translucent butterflies, grabbing the sun. Our residents were thrilled with how good their work turned out!
