Stowford Love Story: Celebrating 68 Years of Love

At Stowford House Care Home, we are overjoyed to celebrate the incredible 68th wedding anniversary of Jean and Peter Casbolt. Their remarkable journey began when they crossed paths at work, and fate intervened as Peter approached Jean, inviting her to what turned out to be their very first table tennis match. Surprisingly, when Jean arrived, it was just the two of them. This serendipitous moment marked the beginning of a beautiful love story.

Their first official date was a magical evening at the theatre, where they enjoyed the classic show “Porgy and Bess” at the now-vanished Old-Style Theatre in central London. This special night kindled their love, and they soon entered a loving courtship. Jean was 16 years old at the time, and Peter was a bit older. Their courtship spanned four years as they diligently saved for their future home.

Though Peter didn’t get down on one knee with a traditional proposal, the moment Jean agreed to marry him was filled with emotion, and Peter couldn’t hold back his tears of joy. Jean walked down the aisle in an elegant off-white dress, clutching a bouquet of radiant red roses. Their honeymoon was spent in Newquay, where they enjoyed a blissful two weeks in a charming guest house.

When asked if Peter was the love of her life, Jean’s eyes twinkled with love, and she replied with a heartfelt “YES.” Jean and Peter’s enduring love story is an inspiration to us all, reminding us that love knows no bounds and can stand the test of time. Join us in raising a toast to their everlasting love and the beautiful journey they have shared together!
