The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party at Oaklands

Oaklands House had an amazing day on Friday the 3rd of June celebrating the Queen’s 70 years on the throne. The Lifestyles team worked tirelessly leading up to the event with decorating the home throughout with bunting, flags, pictures, cardboard cut outs of the Queen and corgis.
As this was the first time we were able to really have a party in two years since before COVID, we aimed to have a truly special day for our Residents and their loved ones.
The celebrations started with the planting of the memorial tree followed by the Jubilee commemoration plaque.
The turnout was amazing with everyone joining us for this momentous occasion. Staff’s children and Residents’ families volunteered on the day, helping with laying the tables, serving ice-cream, soft drinks, sweets, serving cakes and making face masks.
Singer Debbie Cobbett entertained everyone with her beautiful voice singing songs from the 50’s and 60’s. she made sure our Residents and guests were having a great time and getting everyone involved.
The activities flowed throughout the home with an afternoon tea in the Vintage Café, Jubilee Bingo in the Sunflower Lounge and the Royal quiz in the courtyard with lots of prizes to be won. Oaklands staff took part in a bake off making a Jubilee themed cake which was judged by our Residents.
As the day came to an end, a BBQ was laid on for all our lovely Residents and guests. It was a brilliant day which will be remembered for a very long time.
