Stowford House Care Home in Shippon, near Abingdon celebrated the opening of its new Vintage Cafe on the 2nd March 2020 at 2pm the Mayor Councillor Charlie Birks, officially cut the ribbon. The Vintage Cafe is a new service which offers a place for people living with dementia and their carers to pop in for a coffee and chat. Home Manager Sherrie Hume recently completed a Dementia Care mapping course. Dementia Care mapping is a method of staff observation in care settings which follows a formal process. It’s a way to measure the experience of people with dementia. Sherrie believes, with the increase of people living with dementia it is essential for continuous education and training. Sherrie said ” Dementia Care mapping is useful for continuous quality improvement in providing person-centred care. Opening the Vintage Cafe will provide a supportive environment where people can come together to share experiences and advice and simply relax and have fun.
