World Environment Day. The theme for this year focuses on solutions to plastic pollution.
Did you know;
-2 million plastic bags are used every minute worldwide.
-By 2050 there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean
-1 in 3 fish caught for human consumption now contains plastic.
In 2021, Greenpeace reported that less than 10 percent of everyday plastic waste is recycled in the UK with some being incinerated, adding toxic chemicals into the air or forgotten in landfills. The rest – nearly 540,000 tonnes – is exported to other countries.
Residents and staff spent the day talking about some of these facts and how we can reduce our plastic use. We also produced a couple of posters of plastic pollution in our environment.
